Temporal Analysis of EEG patterns in a bio- feedback based Brain Computer Interface

This paper describes the development of a brain computer interface. The system allows the user to control a game character in a 3D virtual environment, as well as control a basic ‘Pong like’ bar in a simple 2D application. The user will have to adapt their thought patterns to be consistent, and to be able to successfully control the game. As the user moves through the game, various methods of bio-feedback are used to allow the user to understand their performance, including rewards for successful movement, and visual and aural ‘punishments’ for unsuccessful movement. The user input comes from electrodes placed on the skull, which are connected to an EEG (electroencephalogram) machine, which in turn is connected to the PC via an ADC (analogue to digital converter) card.
